Certification for Addiction Medicine Specialists

There are multiple pathways available to achieve subspecialty certification in addiction medicine through the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) and the American Osteopathic Conjoint Examination Committee on Addiction Medicine.

To prepare for the certification examination, the American College of Academic Addiction Medicine (ACAAM) offers two cost-effective online addiction medicine preparation tools.

Addiction Practice e-Test (ADePT)

ADePT is a proven knowledge self-assessment and Board exam preparation tool developed without industry support or influence by an academic panel of addiction medicine experts from ACAAM. ADePT has been optimized based on psychometric analysis performed by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and meets the high standards expected from an actual board exam. The formatting of ADePT is the closest available to the actual Board exam. The exception is that physicians have unlimited attempts until a passing score is achieved plus three additional retakes.

Self-Assessment Modules (SAMs)

SAMs provide a unique opportunity to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in addiction medicine. They offer a comprehensive collection of relevant, evidence-based content, can be used as a tool to test your knowledge and skills and one (1) CME unit is given for each completed SAM. There are four (4) questions per module and immediate feedback is given upon completing the self-assessment.
